MUGA for Bala!
A new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) was opened in Bala on Tuesday 16 th June by S4C’s Nic Parry. The project, which was funded by Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd, The Clothworkers Foundation, The Garfield Weston Foundation, The 29 th May 1961 Charitable Trust, CIST Gwynedd, N.D.A, PACT and Bala Town Council, cost £48,000, and will be a free facility available for the whole community.
The park has been set up to be suitable for a variety of uses, including 5 a side football, netball, basketball, hockey, and mini tennis.
At the official opening, attended by many including pupils from Ysgol y Berwyn, Ysgol Beuno Sant and Ysgol Bro Tegid, Nic Parry said:
“Communities all over Britain will be envious of this wonderful facility. You should be proud of yourselves as a community that you have secured such a legacy for your young peoples health and well being.”
A local police response officer commented:
"Some of the youths that use the MUGA had previously been playing football on the street, they were causing a nuisance to others but also putting themselves in dan ger. They now meet to regularly play football at the MUGA - so the project has already proved that it's a success."
Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd co-ordinated the project , and our Bala based Community Development Officer, Fred Breakell, commented:
"I've throuroughly enjoyed working along with the community on this project. I'd like to thank all of the individuals and organizations that have pulled together to develop the MUGA. I think that the benefits will be felt for years to come!"
