Denbigh Mid Summer Festival – Rugby World Cup Tournament – Organised and Sponsored by Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd

On Saturday morning June 23 rd a Tag Rugby World Cup Tournament was held at Clwb Rygbi Dinbych as part of the festivals activities. With over 120 youngsters taking part the morning was a great success. Twelve teams in all, six primary and six secondary representing Ysgol Twm o’r Nant, Ysgol Cefn Meiriadog, Nant Conwy, Bryn Teg, Ysgol Glan Clwyd and Ysgol Brynhyfryd. Each team chose which Country they wanted to represent and they were given a team shirt for that country. All teams played five games each and the standard of rugby was very high, especially as some were teaming up for the first time. After three hours of playing the following teams made the finals: Primary competition, New Zealand (Nant Conwy) against South Africa (Ruthin), and Secondary competition, Steffans’ team against Cymis’ team, both from Ysgol Glan Clwyd. Two great finals, but it was South Africa and Steffans’ team that eventually took the titles and were crowned Rugby World Cup Denbigh Mid Summer Festival champions. However the best was yet to come as Rowland Phillips arrived to present the prizes and a word of encouragement to all the players.
