Tenants’ Day – a Great Success!
7 August 2008

World Darts Champion, Mark Webster, 24, took time out of his busy schedule to officially open Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd’s annual Tenants Day (Wednesday, 6 of August) at Denbigh Leisure Centre. A warm welcome awaited the local hero as he thanked the tenants from across North Wales for their support since he won the world darts championship title in January this year.

Mark Webster explained: “It’s very flattering to be asked to these different events, but with a busy darts schedule and training to be a plumber, I am rarely able to say yes. Luckily, I have a great employer, so was able to agree to open this Tenants Day for Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd at Denbigh. It’s great to be able to thank people for their support during these last few months.”

Mark will be travelling to Denmark at the end of the month to participate in the WDF European Darts Cup with Wales ’ National Darts Team.

A host of guest speakers offered advice to tenants throughout the day, including Dave Lloyd from TPAS Cymru, the leading tenants’ participation organisation in Wales , the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Siân Bennett from Health Challenge Wales. Eating healthily and staying active were the key messages from Health Challenge Wales during the morning. The Fire and Rescue Service highlighted their free Home Fire Safety Checks, available to all local people, and the importance of fitting smoke detectors in the home plus checking them on a weekly basis.

Bryn Jones , a Director at Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd said: “We are so pleased to see so many people attending the event today, from the younger children to the older generation. Inviting our tenants to this special day is a great way of bringing everyone together to socialise, discuss issues and to develop new ideas. Our partners and other organisations are also on hand to offer practical advice and assistance to the tenants here today. We are extremely grateful to them for their continued support, and I believe that by working together we offer a better service to our tenants across north Wales . I truly hope that the day has been an enjoyable one for everyone, and that people have left the event feeling it has been worthwhile.”

Throughout the morning, children participated in drama workshops, story-telling, face-painting, sporting activities, including hockey, tennis and football, plus the Fun Bus arrived to entertain the youngsters outside.

A successful ‘Scrapheap Challenge’ was the afternoon’s activity, with children and adults joining ranks to exploit their engineering ingenuity!

Bryn Jones added: “We are extremely grateful to all the tenants who have attended the day, to all our guest speakers, Mark Webster, and the partner agencies and organisations in attendance. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the team at Tai Clwyd for arranging this successful day of events – it has been a truly fantastic day!”
