Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd and Gwynedd Council have great pleasure in announcing that the initiative in Llanuwchllyn to develop four affordable homes has been successfully completed.

Last year, Gwynedd Council sold land at Maes y Pandy Llanuwchllyn to Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd for a price less than market value. This was done in order to meet the local need for affordable homes.

As explained by Alwyn Llwyd, Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd’s Chief Executive: "This initiative has been a good example of what can be achieved through dedication, effective co-ordination and close collaboration between local people, Gwynedd Council, the Gwynedd Rural Housing Enabler, Sylfeini, the Community Council, Snowdonia National Park , Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd and the developers themselves."

Gwynedd Council and Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd have signed a Section 106 Agreement with Snowdonia National Park , as the Planning Authority. This will ensure that local people will be given priority when the houses will be rented or sold in the future.

Dafydd Iwan, Gwynedd Council’s Senior Portfolio Leader – Development, said: "Gwynedd Council has decided that providing people with comfortable homes which they can afford in their own communities is one of our highest priorities, and it gives us great satisfaction to see this project becoming a reality.

“Four young local families are now in new homes, built to a high standard, and which will be relatively cheap to maintain and to heat. Our thanks go to Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd and all the partners who have made this possible."

Special emphasis has been given on the sustainability side, ensuring a very high level of insulation in the units as well as solar panels, funded by Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd .

This will result in considerable savings to the occupiers with regards to the cost of hot water heating – in fact many elements of the building work exceed statutory standards.
